"Harold Johnson returns to his childhood home for his brother Cliffords' funeral and begins a journey through the past, a retrieval of recollections that have too long sat dormant. His mind circles back, shifting in time and space, weaving in and out of memories of his silent, powerful Swedish father; his formidable Cree mother, an expert trapper and a source of great strength; and his brother Clifford, a precocious young boy who is drawn to the mysterious workings of the universe. As the night unfolds, memories of Clifford surface in Harold's mind's eye: teaching his younger brother how to tie his shoelaces; jousting on a bicycle without rubber wheels; building a motorcycle. Memory, fiction, and fantasy collide, and Clifford comes to life as the scientist he was meant to be, culminating in his discovery of the Grand Unified Theory"--OCLC.

This text was developed specifically for the BC Science and Social Studies curricula. It is the only comprehensive resource available which provides all the content necessary to learn about B.C.'s living and non-living resources. And best of all it has been developed in B.C. by B.C. educators and has been recommended by the BC Ministry of Education. For Grades 5-8. Students will learn:

-about land, mineral and water resources; the ways we use the resources and the effects of using them.
-how we use the land for growing crops, for raising animals and hunting wildlife and for forestry, tourism and recreation.
-that B.C.'s mountains are full of minerals and how this abundance of minerals makes mining B.C.'s third most important industry.
-why water is an important resource in B.C. for drinking, hydroelectric power, recreation, industry and as a food source.
-the uses, benefits and economic impact of BC's resources; from traditional First Nations' to present day.
-the evolution of the technology used in resource development and use, environmental issues, sustainability and careers.

"Warrior Life: Indigenous Resistance and Resurgence is the second book of the best blogs and articles authored by Pamela Palmater since her first book: Indigenous Nationhood: Empowering Grassroots Citizens. Like the first book, this one provides short chapters on current Indigenous issues that are easily accessible to students and the general public under the general topic areas of Canadian and First Nation politics, racism, sexualized genocide, Canadian law and policy impacting Indigenous peoples and a critique of reconciliation initiatives. The book is structured as a collection of mini-political and legal critiques/analyses of current issues that provides a starting point for further inquiry or discussion in academic or informal settings. It will also provide updates at end of each chapter so that readers will know what happened next and where they need to take action. Like the first book, Indigenous Nationhood, the focus is on grassroots Indigenous resistance and resurgence through exercising our voices as sovereign individuals and collectives for the betterment of our peoples and Nations. Social change requires social engagement, discussion, consideration and reflection of the issues to work towards consensus on the paths forward for our Nations. Solidarity-building with other social justice movements is also key to the radical changes needed to address crises issues like genocide against Indigenous peoples and its connection to the climate change emergency facing all of us. This book, like the last, holds the state to account and seeks to inform and empower grassroots peoples both Indigenous peoples and Canadian allies through information, analysis and suggested paths forward. Now more than ever, the future of our peoples and the planet depend on us to break through the barriers of anti-Indigenous racism, capitalism & patriarchy, to decolonize our minds, bodies and spirits and focus on living, asserting and defending our sovereignty and our territories. It requires us to be warriors and find a way to balance our efforts towards both resistance and resurgence. As much effort as we put into resisting ongoing genocide, we must also put into cultural resurgence and nation-building. Traditional Indigenous governance starts with the people and that is where this book locates itself."--

"In the 1950s, 7-year-old Edmund Metatawabin was separated from his family and placed in one of Canada's worst residential schools. St. Anne's, in northern Ontario, is an institution now notorious for the range of punishments that staff and teachers inflicted on students. Even as Metatawabin built the trappings of a successful life wife, kids, career he was tormented by horrific memories. Fuelled by alcohol, the trauma from his past caught up with him, and his family and work lives imploded. In seeking healing, Metatawabin travelled to southern Alberta. There he learned from elders, participated in native cultural training workshops that emphasize the holistic approach to personhood at the heart of Cree culture, and finally faced his alcoholism and PTSD. Metatawabin has since worked tirelessly to expose the wrongdoings of St. Anne's, culminating in a recent court case demanding that the school records be released to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Now Metatawabin's mission is to help the next generation of residential school survivors. His story is part of the indigenous resurgence that is happening across Canada and worldwide: after years of oppression, he and others are healing themselves by rediscovering their culture and sharing their knowledge. Coming full circle, Metatawabin's haunting and brave narrative offers profound lessons on the importance of bearing witness, and the ability to become whole once again."-- Provided by publisher.

. This kit is designed to introduce computational thinking through coding to students in kindergarten to grade 3 through a variety of lessons and tools. Bee-Bots and Code-A-Pillars are device independent so students can code without the use of another device and right from turning the device on. Dash and Blue-Bots can be used with or without a tablet and App. The app allows for Block coding and also as a remote for the Dash robot. The Littlecodr cards provide for non-tech coding lessons to help students learn about creating algorithms to solve problems.

Plus large Bee-Bot rubberized card mat.

This kit contains 29 copies. Eight-year-old Margaret Pokiak has set her sights on learning to read, even though it means leaving her village in the high Arctic. Faced with unceasing pressure, her father finally agrees to let her make the five-day journey to attend school, but he warns Margaret of the terrors of residential schools. At school Margaret soon encounters the Raven, a black-cloaked nun with a hooked nose and bony fingers that resemble claws. She immediately dislikes the strong-willed young Margaret. Intending to humiliate her, the heartless Raven gives gray stockings to all the girls — all except Margaret, who gets red ones. In an instant Margaret is the laughingstock of the entire school. In the face of such cruelty, Margaret refuses to be intimidated and bravely gets rid of the stockings. Although a sympathetic nun stands up for Margaret, in the end it is this brave young girl who gives the Raven a lesson in the power of human dignity.

Introduction -- Moving through the postcolonial door -- Rights and recognition -- Governance in the post-Indian Act world -- Building business relationships and the duty to consult -- Restoring balance, correcting injustices, and keeping vigilant. "From Where I Stand is a timely, forthright, and optimistic book for all Canadians. Drawn from speeches made over a ten-year period both at home and abroad, Jody Wilson-Raybould reveals why true reconciliation will occur only when Canada moves beyond denial, recognizes Indigenous Rights, and replaces the Indian Act. We have the solutions. Now is the time to end the legacy of colonialism and replace it with a future built on foundations of trust, cooperation, and Indigenous self-government."--
